Target Intrusion Detection Systems
Reduction of false positives (false alarms) within Network IDS has been the fundamental goal of most IDS vendors in recent years.  Target Based IDS. These are security consoles that combine input from vulnerability scanners with Network IDS. They reduce or increase the priority of an alert based upon whether the attack's target is vulnerable to the attack.
Target IDS. Recent interest in Passive OS/Vulnerability Fingerprinters has been incorporated into some Network IDS, the analysis regarding the Target's vulnerability to the detected activity is performed within the IDS itself offering a possible reduction in bandwidth between the IDS and the console or by presenting this information locally at the sensor.
